I am a woman of many words. I cannot write this ‘About Me’ page without including all the wonderful people who complete me, so upon sound advice from my bestie and fellow-blogger buddy– ‘Em’ as I dearly call her, I decided to make it my first blog post!
Ajeesh (aka -AJ) - My dental college sweetheart and best friend. We got married 16 years ago, during our dental internship in 2003, when we were very young and carefree. He has been my rock ever since –believing in me and my dreams, covering my weaknesses and unwaveringly confident about my potential and capabilities. He is the light that guides me in my darkness. We are two polar extremes, but through all the ups and downs, fights and makeups, external politics and challenges thrown at us, we have reached our sync. Alhamdulillah. I owe all my success and achievements to his unfaltering support, providing me with whatever I needed to concentrate on “me, myself and I”, for my career to flourish.
I had been living and working in Birmingham for 8 years before moving to London for my master’s. We left the comfort of a large circle of friends, a vibrant social life, huge house, secure jobs and Izaan in a good school, 5 mins from home. In short, we went from a well-settled life to starting all over again in London– something that would’ve been impossible to conceive of, were it not for my supportive hubby who helped me to pursue my long-held aspiration of being a specialist.
I R - Born in 2010, after my bitter experience with infertility – a blessing and my lifeline. My life was transported to a world of bliss and I enjoyed and relished all the ’little and big’ moments of his growing up. Every day was an adventure ...and a dream come true ...and once he joined school, I embarked on my dream of a master’s degree in Prosthodontics.
H Z - Born in 2015 - I was engrossed in the MClinDent and was totally enjoying the course. The first year was about learning how to do all of the lab work ourselves and the basics of dentistry. It was the best year of the programme and six months into it, to my pleasant surprise– I was pregnant again. After much deliberation, I decided to take a year out to enjoy Hadi and spend a short stint in India with my parents.
After an 'all balls in the air' roller-coaster of 5 years and a 2-hour one-way commute to London for 3 days a week for 2 years from Cambridge, I successfully completed the course. Like a child at Cadbury World, I thoroughly enjoyed the 5 years of speciality training at KCL. It was an exciting experience– being a student, keeping time, being naughty under the teachers’ noses, writing a thesis, being examined, conducting seminars; I savoured all of it! As good as it was, I AM GLAD IT’S OVER!! KCL is now ranked the best in QS ranking for the year 2020, for dentistry. That sure makes me beam with pride.
Since then, we have moved to Ely (Cambridgeshire). The boys go to a school here and we bought a practice in Kings Lynn. I am also working as a specialist at Guildhall Dental at Bury St Edmunds and additionally, I work as an associate at the ‘My dentist’ practice here in Ely.
Papa and Umma - My parents gave me a solid upbringing, providing me with the best of education and opportunities that I could ask for. They gave me a nostalgic and memorable childhood and taught me values, principles and life lessons that have moulded me into the confident, caring, positive and energetic person I am today.
Kaka (Imthias Kadeer) - My only sibling who I know is only a phone call away, no matter what I want and as much as we are different, we always agree to disagree! His ‘BETTER HALF’ in every sense of the word, my darling Pon – is one of my biggest blessings along with my precious nephews Omi and Isah who switch on my maternal instincts.
Uppa and Umma - My parents-in-law, whom not every woman can boast of as being their asset. They have supported me tremendously and their respect, love and trust have given me wings and confidence to fly high.
Siblings - Sisters-in-law who have never made me miss having a sister - Aleemtha, Anustha and Ameera, my dear brother Ashfu, my nephews and nieces, grandmother (vellumachi) , my maternal and paternal uncles and aunts, cousins and the rest of the family – your prayers and love keep me going.
My dearest friends - You guys have been such motivation and support all through my journey so far. You all have added value and have had a hand in moulding me into who I am. Some of you, I have known from the second standard in school, most of you from dental college and some of you are my families away from family here in the UK (you all know who you are !). Your families have become part of me as well, and the fact that we could share the journey at some point (even though you all may be far away now), has enhanced my life immensely and I am always grateful to Allah for each one of you.
I believe that I am a well-loved and super-blessed person (All thanks to my Lord)– a happy-go-lucky, talkative, emotional, loud, bold, confident and outgoing woman. I love the character of Kareena in 'Jab we met' and want to think that I am like her – silly, risk-taking, living life by the moment, selfie-taking, capturing every good moment and deleting the bad (even from memory!). You will learn more about me along the way as we go on this journey together and I hope you will enjoy the ride!
